Police in Lagos have arrested a physically-challenged beggar, Godwin Fawehinmi, for allegedly being in possession of different types of guns.

The suspect was arrested by detectives attached to Area M Police Command, Idimu, Egbeda area of the state at the weekend.

The suspect, who is crippled, it was learnt, usually begs for alms on the street on a daily basis. However, it came to many as a surprise when a gun was recovered from him.

After a thorough search of his bag, a locally-made gun was discovered in it.

Thereafter, several guns, according to the police, were discovered in Fawehinmi’s house at Alhaji Sadiku Street, Akowonjo, Egbeda.

During interrogation, the suspect was said to have declined to mention the source and his mission with the guns.

A source said some residents of the area where the man usually sits to beg for alms, noticed different people that visit him on a daily basis look suspicious. That was why they informed the police, the source added.

A police source said Fawehinmi might be keeping the gun for some armed robbers and pretended to be a beggar.

The source, however, said the suspect had been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office, Ikeja at the state Police Command Headquarters for further investigation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chike Oti, confirmed Fawehinmi’s arrest.

He said: “The crippled was arrested based on credible information available to the Commissioner of Police, Imohinmi Edgal, who now ordered that the man mentioned in the intelligence report be arrested.

“The operatives of the command went after him, conducted search in his house and premises and recovered different types of guns, axes, machetes and other weapons. Investigation is still on-going.”

The man who cautioned that his real identity must not be disclosed also refused to provide his wife’s mobile details for confirmation, but assured of tracking the story in order to get public opinion on what he tagged, ” my wife’s inordinate and sodomic act.”

Where does the myth of mermaids originate from?

In Mesopotamian mythology , Ea was an amphibious being (merman) who taught mankind wisdom. As described by the Babylonians 7,000 years ago, Ea had the form of a fish but with the head of a man under his fish’s head and under his fish’s tail the feet of a man. In the daytime he came up to the seashore of the Persian Gulf and instructed mankind in writing, the arts, and the sciences.
Ea would later be called Oannes by the Greeks. Greek mythology also has stories of the god Triton, the merman messenger of the sea.
The earliest known mermaid legends come from Syria around 1000 B.C. The Syrian goddess Atargatis dove into a lake to take the form of a fish out of shame for accidentally killing her human lover, but the powers there would not allow her give up her great beauty; only her bottom half became a fish and she kept her top half in human form.
Some Greek myths described the Sirens as mermaids; the Sirens had beautiful voices that lured unsuspecting sailors and fishermen to their deaths on rocky shores. (Sirens were more frequently depicted as half-woman, half-bird in Greek myths.) The Arabian Nights tales also described sirens as mermaids.
Some of the legends of the Pacific Islands said that human beings are descended from both mermaids and mermen. Somewhere back in time, their tails somehow dropped off, and people were magically able to walk on land.
All sea-faring cultures have mermaid tales. Reports of ‘mermaid’ sightings continued right into the 1900s.

‘I am a pastor, ordained for five years now. The issue of tithing is a personal thing. I get very careful about making certain statements I have watched some people condemn tithing, say a lot of things about men of God and I pity some of those people because they are speaking out of ignorance. 2 Reasons Olamide Will Never Be On The Same Level As Wizkid And Davido

2017 saw Davido and Wizkid not only doing a tremendous job in their careers, they did a beautiful job in exporting the Nigerian sound.

So let’s start this way, if you were asked to mention top 3 artistes in Nigeria today, am certain Olamide’s name will find a way to sneak in there right, right???

Okay, now, for every person working in one field or the other, let’s take the entertainment industry, for instance, their goal or as they claim is export the sound abroad and make themselves known to other acts around the globe particularly the US.

I already know some people are set to compose curses aimed at me…calm down…am not done, you will get your chance.

Davido, Wizkid have both done fantastic jobs doing just the above, getting their names out there [in the abroad] and ensuring the big dogs there, get a taste of our tasteful sound.

Now for Wizkid, he did this; create the Afro-Caribbean medley enabling the likes of Drake, Jidenna amongst others take a dip into this ever filling ocean and creating even more delicious sound with it.

Davido, on his end made sure several top foreign ears take a listen to the sound, he did that so well, OG in the game R-Kelly walked the path of a remix to his song.

Now Olamide, what excactly is holding this Nigerian big dog from exporting our sound or even making a name for himself outside the shores of the land, you ask him, he will probably say this; I represent the street, the street is where I belong, I make music for the people,’ but WO, isn’t Wikzid and Davido doing just about this and still ensuring the African sound is being exported? What exactly is stopping you from let’s even agree you are the king of the street, taking that street sound you are so certain you own down there and making them take a listen, work with you and bring even more awareness to your brand and the same street you are fighting tooth and nail to entertain, my answer;

LAZINESS

let’s face it, Olamide is lazy. Yeah, awon omo wobe are getting ready to look for Tope Delano and attack yeah, still hold your unintentionally ripped jean and sweaty discolored shirt by the only thread it has and let me finish. Ya man is lazy! He knows just about how much work it takes to get the above done and would rather remain in his already falling about comfort zone as he knows the street will remain the street, the intellectually challenged zone, hard-drugs and objectification of a woman’s body does the trick. Okay, you have to do both to make music, how about doing it in ways where when the learned ones who enjoy WOBE sounds listen [as if these people can understand am certain the foreigners can] they won’t start trembling and taking a dash a psychologist to determine their true state of mind, how about that sir?

FEAR

this one actually baffles me as this is the same man that has single handlely done wonders for the career of many who swam in the river of uncertainty of this aggressive industry. However, I can understand as this could cause a big challenge when you have to go to a much more learned setting to ply your trade. Olamide is simply scared of the unknown. Scared that the foreigners will reject his sound and this may take a swing at his emotions, but again isn’t that what life is about, picking yourself up when it deals you a huge blow? This is a man who has quite a number of young ones looking up to him, same ones who if given just a minute chance to get their sound heard abroad, they would grab it. So, I ask, what exactly are you teaching them? You have all it takes, what exactly is stopping you, if fear isn’t one of it?

I know some of you will come on here saying; as long as he is making money, repping the street blah to the effing bla…it’s cool, but ask yourselves, if you get a chance to be better, to show the world just how amazing the WOBE sound CAN and should be with just the right lyrics or even the codeine-based, illegal money making ventures and  body shaming/ objectification ones, done with the right words is, will you not go for it?

Got thoughts about these reasons, drop your comments below.

5 Celebrities who don't celebrate Christmas

Many people do not celebrate Christmas – including some well-known celebrities

The Met Gala 2017 – Arrivals Featuring: Serena Williams Where: New York, New York, United States When: 01 May 2017 Credit: WENN.com

Not long after my father passed away, my mom chose to become a Jehovah’s Witness. I was still a little girl at the time, so for years there was no celebrating my birthday, Easter or Christmas – not even Mother’s Day. While my mother is still a Jehovah’s Witness, I don’t have a religion. I simply believe in the ‘golden rule’ … treat others as you wish to be treated.

Christmas has never been a big deal for me but now as a first time mom, I am definitely feeling excited about it. Funny how children change your life in so many ways.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams and her sister Venus were also raised as Jehovah’s Witnesses and apparently Serena still adheres to the faith today which means no Christmas celebrations.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is Jewish and does not celebrate Christmas. But, the actress admitted last year that she would be putting up a tree for the first time. Not because she would be celebrating but rather because she has family members who celebrate and she would be hosting them in her home that year. Thoughtful … we like!

Barbara Streisand

Even though Barbara Streisand has recorded a few “Christmassy” albums, the singer does not celebrate Christmas.

Seth Rogan

Seth Rogan is Jewish and does not celebrate Christmas.

Adam Sandler

Adama Sandler is also a memeber of the Jewish faith.

Free at last! Conjoined twins separated for the first time

CONJOINED twins who shared a liver, intestine AND bladder have been successfully separated after a marathon surgery lasting 12 hours and involving 20 doctors

Born on September 19 last year, Love and Prince Zalte, from Mumbai, were attached from the lower part of the chest.

The surgery began at 4am on the fateful day and involved paediatric surgeons, anaesthetists and orthopaedic surgeons, among others doctors.

Seven of the hospital’s operating theatres were shut down so the team could fully focus on the surgery.

The twins are recovering in intensive care and are resting in separate beds for the first time in their lives. It is unclear when they will be home.

Their mother Sheetal Zalte, 26, who learnt about their condition 24 weeks into her pregnancy, said: ‘It is hard to express in words how happy I will be to hold my children in both my arms.’

Conjoined twins are believed to occur in just one in every 200,000 live births.

What are conjoined twins?

Conjoined twins occur when siblings have their skin or internal organs fused together.

Conjoined twins are caused by a fertilised egg beginning to split into two embryos a few weeks after conception, but the process stops before it is complete.

The most common type is twins joined at the chest or abdomen.

Separation surgery success depends on where the twins are joined.

Doctors can only tell which organs the siblings share, and therefore plan surgery, after they are born.

At least one twin survives 75 per cent of the time.

‘I will be able to hold my children in my arms’

Dr Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO of the Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital, where the procedure took place, said: ‘At [the] tender age of one year and three months, Love and Prince underwent this complicated surgery and are currently stable in [the] paediatric intensive care unit.

‘They will be under observation for few days which will be followed by multiple surgeries to ensure they are healthy and fit to survive.’

Although the procedure was a success, Dr Bodhanwala added: ‘The most challenging part of the surgery was to provide skin to cover both the children.’

How common are conjoined twins?

Love and Prince are the the third set of conjoined twins to be successfully separated at Wadia Hospital.

Approximately 40 to 60 per cent of conjoined twins arrive stillborn, while around 35 per cent survive only one day.

The overall survival rate of conjoined twins is between five and 25 per cent.

There are Over 4,000 Nigerians in One Libyan Prison - Returnee Recounts Torrid Experience

A married Nigerian man who recently returned from Libya in a failed bid to make it to Europe illegally has recounted his sour tales.

I am Sunday Ehiagwina, 34, from Edo State.

Did you have a job before you left Nigeria?

I was a cobbler. I have been making shoes for seven years.

Why did you abandon the job?

I abandoned it because the job was not stable and some of my friends advised me to go to Italy. I left on April 15, 2017. I left with my wife. I paid N1.1m to one John Osaremwen. He is dead now. I heard he died in Benin City. The money was to take us to Italy. We went through Kano and Katsina to Libya. When we got to Libya, we were kept in a detention camp and ordered to pay money for our release. I paid N600,000 for my wife and myself.

When we were released, we went to Tripoli where we met one prince, a Ghanaian, who promised to take us to Italy. We paid him N400,000. We spent four months with him until the Libyan police came and arrested us. If a person tells me now that he wants to take me to Libya, I will arrest the person because that person wants me dead.

Were you assaulted?

I was beaten up by the Libyans. We did not eat well. They fed us with tasteless macaroni. At least, five persons died in my presence. They died in a prison. Some also died in the desert.

Is it true that some of the females were s*xually abused?

Yes, it is true. They were r*ped. We were kept separately from the women. A boy told me that he saw one of the Arabs r*ping a girl.

Was your wife s*xually abused?

No. She told me that she was not touched by anyone. My wife was already five months pregnant then. She is still pregnant now. It was by God’s grace that she did not lose her pregnancy.

How did react when you heard that you would return home?

I was very happy because I had suffered enough and wanted to be free. When I got to Nigeria, I was happy. I appreciate the Federal Government and the state government for their assistance. But some persons are still in Gharyan prison in Libya. We have over 4,000 Nigerians there.

Ondo Specialist Hospital congested with unclaimed corpses

The Chief Medical Director, Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Ore, Dr Akindele Semudara, says the morgue at the hospital is over-congested with heaps of unclaimed corpses.

According to him, this development has become the greatest challenge facing the hospital. This is as a result of increasing rate of accidents along the Benin-Ore-Lagos Highway.

The medical expert said on Monday in Ore, Ondo State, that decongesting the morgue had posed a serious challenge to the hospital management.

According to him, speeding and reckless driving is the order of the day on the expressway.

“We record a high number of accident victims during this “Ember months’’ as officials of the Ondo State Rescue Operations bring corpses of unclaimed accident victims to the hospital daily.

“At a point, the Odigbo Local Government Council in Ondo State told the hospital management that it had no more land for mass burial of the accident victims.

“However, at a particular time, the state government came to our rescue before the management of the hospital could carry out a mass burial.

“We are currently facing the same challenge now, but we have been talking to the state government to come to our rescue again.’’

Semudara urged motorists to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys and to be patient and cautious while driving.

He implored the Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Union of Road Transport Workers to sensitise motorists on traffic rules, to reduce crashes on highways.

The Real Reason P-Square Are Selling Squareville

psquare.

One half of the defunct P-Square, Paul Okoye has given a reason why the twins are selling their mansion in Omole, Lagos.

Do you see the traffic that builds up everyday on the third mainland bridge? It can scare anybody, even if you are a superstar.

Paul Okoye is weary of the stress caused by the gridlock experienced everyday for commuters moving from the Lagos mainland to the island or vice versa, and this has influenced the brothers' decision to sell their famed Squareville mansion.

Paul, who is one half of the now defunct P-Square opened up on why the brothers are selling their sprawling property in the Omole area of Lagos.

The building which has a swimming pool, basement and other exotic features goes for 320 Million Naira.

"When we moved into Ikoyi, going down to Omole became too stressful. Before now, we were okay with the house on the mainland because we had no kids nor family then. Now we have our families and going through the third mainland everyday was stressful.

"So we just decided to sell it while we are making plans to buy somewhere on the Island, preferably Lekki which is close to us, not the one that the house is on the mainland and when we have to go there, we would be checking the traffic situation" he said.
