💋.   Quit Cold Turkey.
You simply stop indulging your habit, not even from ‘one day’ but from ‘right now.’ You say to yourself: “Stop!” “No more!” or “This ends now!” And you never go back to your bad habit.
BTW, such ‘interruption phrases’ serve well in breaking the bad habit’s loop (see #2 below).
Well, that’s the theory. It’s not so easy to get rid of a habit. It’s ingrained in your brain. When its trigger will repeat, the old behavior ignites. That’s the greatest weakness of this method. Often, when an old pattern recurs, when you slip just one time, you make a big fuss out of it. You feel that you wasted all the time of abstinence. You are so crushed with self-disappointment that when an old habit reappears once, you entirely slip into old ways.But there is a power in such approach as well. If you quit cold turkey and persevere in your resolve even for a few days, you prove to yourself that you are capable of change. 

Three tips that make this approach work better:

1. Make it your identity
Identify yourself with breaking your bad habit; tell yourself: I am a person who doesn’t…. [insert your destructible behavior]. Telling yourself may be a weak strategy, especially if you feel that you are affirming the falsehood. If you habitually went postal a few times a day for years, saying “I am a person who doesn’t get angry,” may sound like a fairytale.
In that case modify the statement:

“I want to be a person who doesn’t get angry.”
“I’m becoming a person who doesn’t get angry.”

2. “Just today”
Tell yourself that you abstain from your bad behavior only for today. The prospect of quitting a bad habit that is a part of your life for years or decades may be overwhelming. You have succumbed to this behavior for so long, that you don’t feel you have the power to break it.
But you can imagine the abstinence for one day. The next day you also focus on surviving only this day. And so on. In a few days you start building a streak, and then additional motivation kicks in, making the transition easier.

3. The ritual of destruction
You enforce and confirm your resolution by some dramatic (or simply meaningful to you) act. If you quit alcohol, you may break all the bottles in your house. If you stop lying, you may confess something terrible about you to your friend. If you quit watching TV, you may destroy your TV set.

When is it best?
This method, surprisingly, works well in breaking addictions.When you feel enslaved to a harmful behavior, when you know it’s destructive for you, for your close ones and for your future, it’s easier to tap into powerful motivation. It gives you the right impulse to say “Stop!” “No more!” or “This ends now!” and really mean that. On my first year at the university, a gaming addiction was putting my future at risk. Long hours spent on playing a computer game consumed my time that I could spend on my studies or cultivating relationships. It also undermined my self-discipline, self-control and self-confidence in the effect. One day I got sick of this. I asked my friend who gamed with me, to kill my character in the game. He killed it several times, and I lost all the experience and items I had been collecting for months.

2. Change Your Habit Loop.
In his book, “The Power of Habit,” Charles Duhigg dedicated a lot of space to the concept of a habit loop. Quite recently, in the last two decades or so, scientists discovered that habits are stored in the brain in a different fashion than more standard memories. In short, the habit consists of a cue, routine and
endpoint (called by Duhigg a reward ).
Usually, some emotion triggers a behavior that ends when this emotional urge is being satisfied.

❤.  There are twofold repercussions of those findings: 
First, your habits are hardcoded in your brain. It means they are impossible to remove. Once formed, they stay with you forever. This is the reason that alcoholics or drug addicts lapse into their addictions, sometimes even after decades of ‘clean’ living. An old trigger released an old behavior.

Second, there is really no such thing as getting rid of the old habit. You can remove it only through lobotomy. But you can ‘overwrite’ it with a new routine. The most efficient (and gruesome) method involves reprogramming the behavior.

❤.  For example, if you reach for alcohol whenever you feel anxious about the future, you use the same feeling (anxiety) to start a new behavior (e.g. prayer).Why is it gruesome? Well, to make a new behavior truly a habit, you need to make it stronger than the old habit. There are other factors, like the amount of attention you dedicate to a new behavior, but generally it comes down to the number of repetitions. So, if you drank twice a week for a decade, because of anxiety, you will need to pray 3 times a week for about 7 years.
❤.  The good news is that when new behavior solidifies, you will never, ever come back to the old routine.
Another thing is that you need to zoom in on and identify with surgical precision what your exact triggers, routines and endpoints are. I recommend a short guide on Charles Duhigg’s page about rebuilding your habits.

When is it best?
This method is very universal. It is the most efficient in case of ‘bodily’ habits- nail-biting, facial expressions, ‘involuntarily’ gestures, or even unwanted speech patterns.
However, it may be used in replacing any kind of bad habit with a new one.

3. Use the Small Steps Approach.
This method tries to combine the best elements of the two instanced above.
You don’t agree for your addiction/ bad habit, but you also freely admit you are not able to quit it cold turkey.You need to analyze your behavior and find your triggers.
❤.  And then you gradually limit your bad habit. You indulge in sweets less. You smoke less cigarettes. You restrict the number of gossip parties.
With each passing week you try to reach another milestone and, finally, you arrive at the point when you stop your wrong behavior altogether.
However, this method combines also the pitfalls of methods #1 and #2.

❤.  Theoretically, you should be less prone to discouragement when you fail. You assumed some amount of failure anyway, right? But it hurts nonetheless.
You also need to analyze your habit loop quite deeply, but you don’t rebuild it as thoroughly as with #2. So, it means the same amount of effort for fewer results.

When is it best?
❤.  This method works great when you have some measurable activity to get rid of. Alcoholics rarely count the number of their shots, and it’s hard for them to say, “OK, this week I’ll have two shots of vodka every day, but the next week it will be only two bottles of beer a day.” Smokers, on the other hand, can almost always provide their daily amount of cigarettes. It’s easy for them to limit their intake by 10% a week. It’s also easier for them to comprehend their ability to get rid of the nasty habit. Quitting cold turkey doesn’t seem doable, the craving is too strong. But smoking two cigarettes a day less? That seems not too hard.

❤.  This is how my wife quit smoking. She didn’t smoke much, less than half a pack a day. She gradually allowed herself fewer and fewer cigarettes a day and, finally, she stopped it altogether.
If you can quantify your bad habit, it’s more convenient to use this method.

4. Track to Reinforce Your Determination.
This is not a method of breaking a bad habit per se , but it’s helpful in absolutely every instance of getting rid of a habit.
What gets measured gets managed.

❤.  In the case of Small Steps Approach, it’s quite obvious. If you are about to restrict yourself by a few cigarettes, In the bare minimum, tracking comes down to checking if you didn’t engage in your bad habit that day. But you can use tracking even with quitting cold turkey, and it reveals the most powerful benefit of this tool. When you quit your bad habit, you start to count days without your addiction. 

❤.   The second day added to a chain feels like an event worth celebration. Then comes the first week, first month, 100 days in a row, the first year. Those milestones give you a sense of accomplishm
❤.  At the beginning, it’s useful for identifying your triggers; later, it’s useful for monitoring if you successfully implemented a new routine or how often you avoid or reframe triggers of your negative behaviors.

❤.  When is it best? It’s best to track your habits every single time. Whether you break the bad habit or build a positive one, you should pay close attention to your progress.

5. Focus on Good Habits.
This method kills your bad habits by starvation. I had some great successes with it.

❤.  You see, getting rid of a bad habit focuses your attention on the negative aspects of your life. It feels restrictive instead of liberating. You watch yourself all the time and deny yourself “pleasures.” Yes, you know that in the long to avoid cigarettes, vodka, drugs, masturbation, sweets, biting your nails till your fingers look like a bloody pulp, binge eating or exploding with anger. But those bad behaviors are part of you. 

❤.  They were your relieving mechanisms that helped you to cope with stress, anxiety or low self-esteem. Without them, your life seems even less bearable.

❤. Thus, instead on focusing on what you no longer can do, it’s better to focus on new activities that contribute positively to your life. You funnel all your energy into improving your life, instead of avoiding what is wrong with it.

I occupied myself for hours every day in reading, listening, doing some exercises recommended in the materials I consumed and starting new habits. If People Are Owing You and Don't Want to Pay, Try This

We've all been there really. Being asked for money and looking for a way out of the tight spot. Because in all honesty, lending money might put your own current or future financial security at risk. Humans generally are insatiable and are ready to borrow you into poverty. You owe it to yourself to stop this from happening. It's worse if the borrowers are members of your immediate family. But there's hope! Here are a few ways out.
Make it a policy. It's really not enough to make this policy, you have to judiciously enforce it. The policy is really simple, never lend money to family and friends. I'll tell you this straight up, it's way easier to get your money back from total strangers than family and friends. With strangers, you can threaten to lock them up. Nobody is letting you lock up your younger brother up. Grandpa will be rolling in his grave.
Don't disclose your financial details. No matter how much you're pressured, never disclose how much you have in the bank with anyone, maybe other than your significant other. It might even backfire, she might be the one to snitch that her husband is doing well to the relatives. Next thing you know, you're carrying the entire extended family and they all promise to pay back.
Offer to help in other ways. Rather than lend money out in large amounts, offer your other services, like exposure. Be careful, though: Most of the time, people who want to borrow money from you don’t actually want your advice on succeeding. If possible, only lend amounts you could otherwise dash the borrower. That way if they don't pay back, which is mostly the case, you're not too hurt.
A trick that works is, as soon as they open their mouths to ask, tell them you were even just going to ask them too. It might seem a tad suspicious if you’re rolling around in a range and complaining about being broke though. So if you’re gonna act broke, the least you can do is to look the part. Times are hard, get your acting skills up.
Ask for time to decide. Tell them you need time off to think about their requests. Take your time and with prayer mixed with hope, they just might forget. Do not make any promises! The harassment that follows making a monetary promise is unprecedented. You can also just gift them a much smaller amount, for the time being.
If all the above still don't work, you have to take things up a notch and FAKE YOUR OWN DEATH. Dead men don't lend out money, because well, they're dead. But given how desperate people are these days, they might want to show up at your funeral to confirm your demise. Now if you weigh the cost of funerals, between buying a coffin, hiring pallbearers to carry it and cooking rice for a little over five hundred people, it's much easier to just lend them the money and live!

My engagement to my first husband was a whirlwind. There were many reasons that we weren’t ready to get married and I remember my doubts at the time — but I pushed through them. I couldn’t call it off! The wedding was organised! The cake was ordered! The guests were invited! It all happened so fast. I needed to trust myself and slow things down, but I didn’t.

Many of us struggle with mental health issues. I’m certainly not saying everyone with depression, or anxiety, etc., shouldn’t get married. What I am saying, though, is if your mental health is not well treated and managed at the moment,just that is your priority right now — not planning a wedding.

It isn’t kind to yourself or you partner to get married while dealing with major mental health issues or addictions. Getting married won’t fix things. The stress of the wedding, if anything, could make it harder to get well. The kindest thing to do is wait and get the professional help that’s needed.

I say professional help here because too often I’ve heard people saying things like, “My partner just need my love and support, then they’ll be fine.”
No. They won’t be. You are your partner’s supporter, sure, but you’re not their rescuer. Rescuing is a dangerous road to go down. If you want to help them, encourage them to access the professional help that’s available.
2. You don’t like yourself
If you’re not happy with yourself, it may not be the best move to be getting married at the moment. People with low self-worth tend to tolerate behaviours from their partners that they shouldn’t. They are also more likely to fall for love-bombing and miss other red-flags that might indicate problems further down the line. (Know the
red-flags to avoid unhealthy relationships).
Other people with low self-worth behave badly, act jealous, or become controlling because they feel insecure. If you don’t like yourself, get help to figure out why and to heal — for your own sake as well as your partners. Getting married may make you feel better temporarily but it won’t be a long term fix.

A friend of mine cried on her wedding day. Not your usual tears-of-joy type cry — she cried so hard that they had to cancel the photography session. I took her aside for a chat to see what was wrong.

Matthew 19:26 says, “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this impossible; but with God all things all things are possible.” When we believe in God’s power, we can rest assured that all things are possible. We also know from Scripture that we can find healing through speaking the Word to our sickness. We see countless examples of healing happening in Scripture through Jesus’ healing power. The same is possible in our daily lives, especially when we pray this prayer: Lord Jesus, heal me. Heal in me whatever You see needs healing. Heal me of whatever might separate me from You. Heal all parts of me, including my mind, body and soul. Being able to listen to God and trust in His power is a major key to overcoming any obstacle you may face. When we call on God, it’s important that we relinquish control and pray for what only He can do. Don’t limit your prayers only to situations that don’t require much divine intervention to change. Instead, make a habit of praying for big things that only God can do. Invite God to do something incredibly powerful in each situation that you bring to Him and watch God reveal the answers to overcome. If you’re ready to pray a prayer that only God can answer, say this: Lord, I am praying for what only You can do. I am praying for a miracle. I know the source from which it will come. 1. Eggs and Bacon

Step 1: Take Care of Yourself
Eat Healthy - your body absorbs less nutrients when you are older, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and take supplements, especially vitamin D and calcium.
Exercise -muscle tissue can become less flexible, and you lose bone density with age. Exercise can help prevent this, start light , don't overdo it and seek the advice of a physician if you are starting a new exercise regime, just taking a 30 minute walk outside is great.

Exercise your mind -"use it or lose it", it can prevent cognitive decline, do suduko, crosswords, play cards, read, learn new things.
Socialize -surround yourself with friends, humans are social animals and thrive in these situations. Join a book club, knitting circle, play bingo, bridge. If your not big on people, get a pet.

Stay on top of your health, visit a doctor for routine screening such as mammogram, prostate, cholesterol, blood pressure, eye exam, hearing test.
It is also not a bad idea to take a closer look at your family tree, to see if there is any history of illness such as heart disease or cancers that you can take preventative measures against.

What to Do When Your Girlfriend Suddenly Dumps You

Controlling your emotions during a breakup is really important, not only for your recovery moving forward, but also for increasing your chances of winning her back. Keeping your emotions centered isn't easy in this situation, I know, I've been there more than once, but blowing up her phone with emotional text messages won't help. The way you handle things is crucial.

1. Accept the Breakup and Start 'No Contact'
Accepting the fact that your girlfriend's leaving you sucks, but the best thing you can do for yourself in this situation is to respect her decision and immediately stop contacting her any further. Calmly tell her you're really unhappy and disappointed with her decision, but that you accept it. Don't initiate contact with her anymore after that, unless of course you have children together and have no choice, or if you need to make plans to exchange belongings.
Using the 'no contact' strategy is hard to do, but it will make her second guess her decision. I stopped contacting my ex girlfriend after she suddenly broke up with me the day after Christmas. She reached out less than one week later. Going 'no contact' after a breakup is an effective way to win your ex back, but you should use this strategy for personal growth, not out of hope that she'll reach out to you.

2. Spend Time with Close Friends and Family
The last thing you want is to be alone with your anxious thoughts after a tough breakup. After my breakup, I spent the weekend with my best friend. When I returned home at the end of the weekend, I felt so much better. Being around supportive friends and family, who truly understand what you're going through, is very therapeutic. Spend time with someone you know will give you helpful advice and encouragement.

3. Focus on Self-Improvement
While you shouldn't over-analyze mistakes you made in the relationship, it is important to be honest with yourself so you can improve for a future relationship. Sometimes your ex won't tell you the reason they ended the relationship, because they don't want to hurt your feelings anymore, or maybe it had nothing to do with you at all.
One of the best ways to combat stress and anxiety from a breakup is exercise. Use the breakup as a motivator to get into better shape. Exercise helps immensely with stress. You'll sleep better and feel better.

What Not to Do When Your Girlfriend Suddenly Dumps You When your girlfriend breaks up with you, there's really nothing you can do to convince her to change her mind in that moment, but your behavior right after the breakup plays a role in whether or not she'll change her mind later.

Before I jump into what you should do when your girlfriend dumps you out of nowhere, I'll cover what you definitely should not do.

1. Begging and Pleading
If you haven't done this already, you probably feel compelled to send her emotional text messages, begging and pleading for another chance. It's normal to feel the urge to try and repair the situation, but crying and begging after being dumped won't help, especially if you treated her badly in the relationships. 

2. Grand Gestures
Dont send her a hand written letter, a long email, or a gift. She'll be annoyed and stressed by your needy behavior and ignore you, which will only make matters worse for you. She's pulled away from you for a reason and the best thing to do is to leave her alone. The grand gesture doesn't work.

3. Angry Text Messages and Phone Calls
My friend told me once, "nothing good happens when you're angry", and it's true. You're surely feeling angry and disappointed about the breakup, and maybe things got ugly at the end, but it's best to stay calm and not lash out with angry text messages and phone calls. You'll probably end up saying something you regret.

4. Avoid Drinking Alcohol
Alcohol is a depressant that will make you feel worse if you start drinking to cope with the loss. With depressed thoughts and poor judgement, you're far more likely to contact your ex and make things even worse. I would definitely avoid drinking until you've given yourself time to recover from the breakup.

5. Stay Away from Dating Apps
After an emotional breakup, it's important to give yourself time to clear your thoughts before meeting new girls on dating apps again. Dating right after a relationship's ended isn't healthy for you, or for a new girl you might go out with, because you'll still have feelings for your ex.

Grieving over the loss of someone you had an emotional bond with can take several months before you're one hundred percent ready to date again. Obviously everyone handles loss differently, but I would give yourself at least one or two months of personal growth before jumping back into the dating game again.

5 Signs You’re Successful (Even If You Don’t Realize You Are)

The dictionary describes success as the attainment of wealth, favor or eminence.

How does that land for you?  As a coach to many people, I have found it is something far different from the laundry list of outdated items and ideas that many were raised on.

Because here’s the truth: real success is rooted in your own empowerment, a power that no one can take away from you.  With this power comes five key signs that you are successful.

1. You find your voice and use it.

You have found your backbone, you confidently use your voice to speak up when needed.  When you are comfortable and ready to speak your truth with authority and confidence success is yours.  When you consider that only 1% of employees feel extremely confident speaking up, you will stand out when you do.  And voicing your concerns isn’t just for you, it costs the organization an average of $7,500 for each issues that goes unspoken about and resolved.

Part of this means making big decisions with conviction in your career.  If you have a really prestigious job, and yet, you’re afraid to share an idea with a colleague, we have some work to do on your mindset. 

Here are some ways to get started:

  • Take small steps and start to speak up in settings where you feel more comfortable and the risk feels lower, like with a loved one or friends.  Let them know you want to build your confidence in speaking up and ask them to share feedback when you do.  
  • When you head into a situation where you will need to speak up, write down what you want to say ahead of time and bring it with you.  
  • Do your homework ahead of time and know why you are speaking up.  Be clear on what you are sharing, why it matters and what results you are aiming to get from the conversation.
  • Consider joining a Toastmaster group or getting a job or side gig is something that requires you to use your voice, like teaching a spin class or be a tour guide at a local attraction.  

This is all about building a muscle in time.

2. You are able to focus on the now.

Success is rooted in a sensation of joy and happiness.  A study by Strayer University found that 90% of Americans believe happiness is a bigger indicator of success than power, possessions, or prestige. In fact, only 20% indicated that financial wealth determines success. 

So, how do you find more joy and happiness in life?

You build practices to live in the present moment- be mindful.  

Begin to work a meditation practice into your daily routine.  First, consider guided meditations.  There are many apps out there offer guided meditation like Insight Timer, or keep a look out for Oprah and Deepak’s free releases of their 21-day meditation series.

As a speaker, I find the day of a big speaking engagement is when I need it the most. For this reason, I will spend a solid 30 minutes in the morning walking through a guided meditation to get me centered and excited.  The days I do this, everything is more present, I live more in the moment the entire day and guess what, my talks always go better!

Meditation doesn’t have to look like sitting on a fluffy pillow, breathing in and out.  You can practice active meditation, go on a walk, play an instrument…do anything that gets you out of your head and focused totally on the present moment.  This can even go to extremes! Steve Kotler studied extreme athletes and how they have taken sports to new levels through flow states, finding that, “The easiest way to live in the moment is to put yourself in a situation where there’s no other choice.”

We all can’t surf 60-foot waves or compete in the x-games, but we can practice living in the moment.  

Practice mindful eating.  Sit down and have a meal in silence where you put your phone away, don’t watch television or even talk to anyone.  Enjoy the experience of nourishing your body bite by bite. You will be surprised at how present it makes you feel, and how yummy the food tastes. 3. You aren’t afraid to dream bigger.

Successful people give themselves permission to dream as big as they want.  When you create a vision for your life that might seem wildly ambitious, but you take steps every day towards it, know you are successful.  These steps might be small or time-consuming, but it is the ability to delay your gratification and keep dreaming big that sets the successful apart from others.  Did you know that only 8% of people who set New Year’s goals actually attain them?  This small percentage of people that did, do so because the set very specific goals that were challenging (but attainable).  When someone sets a goal with these two principles there is a 90% chance of success.

If you feel like you are cruising through life without any big plans or ambitions, that’s okay, but let’s get you moving and inspired for more!

Set a plan in place to achieve your goals.  Below :

  • Before you create a dream or a goal, as yourself “why?”, find your inner purpose for why you want this goal.  That is going to be what keeps you going when things get tough or tiring. Instead of making a goal “To become the manager of my team” understand why you want this and what it will do: Enable me the opportunity to help others and provide me with more money to build a college fund for my children.  The real purpose of this goal is to help others.  
  • Find an accountability partner.  Share your goals with another person or group the help encourage one another to reach your dream.  It will make the process more fun and you will be held accountable to show up for others and yourself.
  • Don’t set it and forget it.  Come back to review your goal consistently, maybe even daily.  A great way to track your progress is through the BestSelf Journal, a magical goal setting journal that also helps you practice gratitude each day.

When you can view a goal or dream from a deeper intention, it becomes more attainable and success is made possible.  Just like how athletes will visualizing winning a track race or tennis tournament you can visualize your goals coming into fruition.  Visualizing the steps to reach the end goal raises your chances of success 13% or more.

4. You embrace failure.

If you are an ambitious person, you probably have felt like a failure at some point. That’s because your standards are high! Nonetheless,  successful people don’t allow that feeling to last long, nor do they make too much meaning of themselves from it. that feeling doesn’t last long.

You know that failure isn’t forever, and is actually an opportunity to learn and grow. In fact, success lives on the same block as failure!it down and make a list of the moments, people and experiences in your life that have taught you the most.  Where their “successes” or “failures”? Write down what happened and what you learned, because it’s all about reframing. Chances are you can see any “loss” as a blessing if you’re willing to search for it. This is a testament to someone’s mindset.

Most people have an unconscious fear of failure, which means you are not able to address it. This is bad news because addressing your fear is key to increasing your chances of success. Feel your fear, and work with it; don’t avoid it. Avoiding your emotions can actually lead to physical illness and health issues down the road.  The idea to “suck it up” or “push it down” are a road straight to depression and anxiety.

5. Your world doesn’t revolve around you.

We all know those “successful” people who walk into a room as if they’re the center of the universe.  I am here to tell you, successful people have usually learned how to manage people, and true leadership looks like focusing on the needs of your team, not your own. Why? Because when your top talent is performing, your company or business you work in is thriving. That requires truly successful people to check their ego at the door, realizing no job is too big or too small, and that the needs of their team members are sacred.When you are no longer the center of the universe, you have succeeded.
