I’ve heard it best put this way:
When you are in your 20’s; it’s about what you are going to do.
When you are in your 30’s; it’s about what you are doing.
When you are in your 40’s; it’s about what you’ve done.
Then, in your 50’s you reach ‘the golden age of man’; somewhere around 53 when you realize ‘none of us get’s out alive’; there are more days behind you than in front of you. Once you reach that point you tend to focus on the time you have left and making the best of the time you have left.
This is probably an old analogy, so it may need to be shifted forward a few years for each category listed.
I was also advised by a wise restaurant owner that ever ‘man’; around 27 or 28 goes through their ‘significant year of change’; which is just about where you are right now.
This is a year where people tend to uproot themselves or take a chance on a new opportunity; time to put away the ways of their youth, so-to-say.
You are no longer a kid; you are staring at 30; time to re-evaluate your life and where you are going.
Your entire life is still in front of you; you have the time to reinvent yourself if you wish.
If you are unhappy, you may not have tied-yourself-down and stuck yourself in a rut or trap of working to pay the mortgage; the car payment; the kids; saving for your two weeks off per year, etc.
Make sure you love what you do in life; then just see who shows up. You don’t have to be compared to anyone or be evaluated by anything. It is a critical time; make the best of it.
