  • It's possible to make yourself look more attractive in just a few minutes.
  • Some strategies involve tweaking your physical appearance; others are more about your behavior towards others.
  • We rounded up some of the simplest ways to boost your appeal.

Two time-tested ways to look better are eating a nutritious diet and sticking to a workout routine. Unfortunately, those strategies need a while to take effect.
If you've got a party tonight — or if you need to impress a date today — you'll be pleased to know there are plenty of ways to amp up your appeal within a matter of minutes.
Below, Business Insider has rounded up nine ways to make other people think you're more attractive — that don't take very much work. Think changing the color of your outfit or listening more intently to what your conversation partner is saying.
Read on to learn the tricks of the trade.

Smile more

In two experiments, published 2014 in the journal Cognition and Emotion, researchers in Switzerland examined the relationship between attractiveness and smiling.
They found that the stronger the smile, the more attractive a face looked.
In fact, they found, a happy facial expression appeared to compensate for relative unattractiveness.
As Helen Fisher, biological anthropologist and author of "The Anatomy of Love," previously told Business Insider: "When you smile, those who see your smile, smile back, even if very briefly. And as they smile, they use facial muscles which trigger the release of neurochemicals in their brain associated with feelings of pleasure — and they are thus likely to feel happy in your company."

Wear red

A 2010 cross-cultural study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General — with participants from China, England, Germany, and the US — found that women are more attracted to men wearing red.
In one experiment from the study, 55 female undergrads looked at a color photo of a man in either a red or green shirt, and then rated the man's attractiveness.
Sure enough, the man was rated significantly more attractive when he was wearing a red shirt. The results were similar when researchers compared the red shirt to other color shirts as well.
Interestingly, participants generally weren't aware that the man's clothing color was influencing their perceptions of his attractiveness.

Make people laugh

Multiple studies indicate that women are more attracted to men who can make them laugh.
In one small French study, published in the journal Psychological Reports, a man told a joke to two friends at a bar while a woman sat at a nearby table. Then that man was instructed to approach the woman and ask for her number. In another version of the situation, one of the men who listened to the joke asked the woman for her number. (These scenarios were repeated about 60 times total.)
After the man left, an experimenter approached the woman and asked her to rate the man on attractiveness and intelligence, and to indicate how much she would want to date the man long-term.
Results showed that the guy was three times as likely to get the woman's number when he'd told a joke. Plus he was rated more attractive and intelligent.

Wear a scented deodorant

Simply knowing that you're wearing a new fragrance can make you act more confident, and even make you seem more attractive to other people.
In a small 2009 study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, researchers gave one group of male undergraduates a spray with antimicrobial ingredients and fragrance oil and another group an unscented spray without antimicrobial ingredients. Over the next few days, the men who used the scented spray reported higher self-confidence and felt more attractive.
The strange part? When a group of women were shown silent videos of the men, they found those who were wearing scented spray more attractive, even though they obviously couldn't smell them. The researchers determined that the men using the scented spray displayed more confident behavior, which in turn made them more attractive.

Pay attention to your partner

For a 2015 Australian study, published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, researchers looked at about 90 undergrads participating in a speed-dating session, and found that men who scored high on a test of mindfulness also received high attractiveness ratings from women.
The researchers can't say for sure why this pattern emerged, but one possibility is that men high in mindfulness may have been more attentive to their partners, and better able to manage any anxiety that would otherwise interfere with their communication.

Walk a dog

In a 2013 study, published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, 100 Israeli women read vignettes about men. Some of the men were described as "cads": They would cheat on their partner and get into fights. The other men were described as stereotypical "dads": They would work hard at their job and take good care of their kids.
Whenever the story featured a cad who owned a dog, women rated that man as a more suitable long-term partner than a cad who didn't own a dog. Cads with dogs were even rated slightly more attractive than dads with dogs.
The researchers concluded that owning a pet signals that you're nurturing and capable of making long-term commitments. It can also help you appear more relaxed, approachable, and happy.
Not into pet ownership? The good news is simply being seen with a dog can make you seem more dateable. In one 2008 study, published in the journal Anthrozoos, a 20-year-old man approached hundreds of women and asked for their phone numbers. When he had a dog with him, he was much more likely to score their digits.

Play with a baby

Research suggests that men who act kindly toward babies are more attractive to women.
In a 2014 French study, published in the Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment, a 20-year-old man seated on a park bench was approached by his "sister" (a confederate) and her baby. This scenario was repeated multiple times: Half the time, the man spoke to and paid attention to the baby and half the time, he all but ignored the baby.
After the "sister" left, the man complimented a woman seated nearby and asked for her phone number. When the man had played with the baby, 40% of the women gave him their number, compared to the 12% who gave him their number when he ignored the baby. The man was also rated more attractive when he'd played with the baby.

Wear high heels

Another French study, published 2015 in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, found that women are more attractive to men when they wear high heels.
In one experiment, a woman sitting at a bar was more likely to be approached by men at the bar when she was wearing high heels, compared to when she was wearing flats or medium heels.
Wearing heels may affect men's behavior in other ways, too. In another experiment, men were more likely to comply with a woman's request to complete a survey when she was wearing high heels.

Make yourself look good by comparison or association

In a blog post for Psychology Today, Madeleine A. Fugère, a professor of Social Psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University, writes about a psychological trick to make you appear more attractive. "Start your night with the contrast effect; end it with the assimilation effect," she writes.
The contrast effect describes what happens when you appear especially beautiful in comparison to someone who's not so good-looking. The assimilation effect describes what happens when you're rated as more attractive because you're associated with a good-looking group.
Fugère explains how to take advantage of both strategies:
"At the party, follow a less attractive individual to the entrance, to make yourself appear more attractive at the moment of arrival. Subsequently, you should hang out with your most gorgeous friends all night, making you a part of that attractive group."
It's not exactly the kindest method you can employ to be more attractive, but hey — it might work

Your favourite position in bed says a lot about you

Your favourite position in bed says a lot about you
Apparently, a good way to get to know someone is to sleep with them.
Not like that, you dirty-minded fiend. You just need to find out what their favourite position is. Again, not like that.
What we’re trying to say is that research has suggested that personalities and sleeping position are related, meaning that the way you sleep reflects your attitude, behaviour, and overall personality.
Professor Chris Idzikowski from the UK Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service discovered a strong correlation between certain sleeping positions and certain personalities.
He also found that most individuals don’t differ their sleeping arrangements throughout their entire life. Only 5 per cent of his research subjects admitted to changing their sleeping position nightly.
There are a multitude of different positions you may sleep in at night, but according to the study the main ones are as follows:
The foetus: About 41 per cent of the population  are foetus sleepers. These people are quite abrasive and harsh on the outside yet soft and shy on the inside. Foetus sleepers tend to be women.
The log: It’s quite simple – you lay on your side with your arms by your sides. These personality types are very likeable and social.
The yearner: Laying on your side with your arms out in front of you. The yearner is quite cynical and suspicious yet open-minded. But good luck trying to change their mind!
The soldier: Laying on your back with your arms by your sides. Quite a common sleeping position, this one reflects those people who tend to keep to themselves.
The freefaller: The one examined position where the subject lays on their front with their arms splayed in a variety of positions. These people tend to be very defensive, outspoken, dominant, and unresponsive to criticism.
The Starfish: A back-sleeping position with arms and legs spread out. This personality is one of free-thinking and peace.
It is most likely that personality types determine the sleeping position rather than the personality being caused by a comfortable sleeping routine, but it would be interesting to see the results of changing sleeping positions on personality.

Cemetery shocker: Body of man killed by lightning fails to decompose 49 days after burial

Exactly 49 days after burial, the corpse of Mr Ahmad Adekunle Abdulsalam, a member of staff of the College of Education, Oro in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State, who was killed by lightening on September 21,2017, was exhumed, last Tuesday, and mysteriously found still fresh.
Abdulsalam … controversial burial
It was promptly removed from the Christian cemetery and taken to the Muslim cemetery along Yidi Road where it was reburied according to Islamic rites.
On that fateful day, Abdulsalam, aged 47, who hailed from Ilesa in Osun State, was said to have dashed out of the Registry Department of the college, where he worked, to get a document in the Examination Office nearby during a down pour when he was struck by lightning and he died instantly.
After the death, traditional worshippers in the town were said to have insisted that, in order to avoid mysterious deaths in the victim’s family, his corpse must be buried without removing the clothes he was wearing when the tragedy struck, while also performing some rites.
The traditionalists, it was learnt, requested for N100, 000 from the family for the rites, which was promptly paid.
Thereafter, the corpse was taken to the Muslim cemetery in Ilorin for burial but was rejected following Abdulsalam’s family’s alleged refusal to allow the dead body undergo prayer and washing in lslamic way.
The corpse was then taken to the Christian cemetery at Okeose, Ilorin and buried.
But dissatisfied with the unceremonious burial of the victim, on Saturday, Oct
14, almost one month after the death, hundreds of members of the Ilorin Muslim community converged at the Muslim cemetery in the town to observe a funeral prayer in absentia for the deceased. The prayer, which lasted less than ten minutes, was led by a former Grand Khadi of Kwara State, Justice Salihu Olohuntoyin-Mohamned.
Mohammed, while speaking at the program, said the prayer was permissible under lslamic injunctions.
He said since there were claims that the victim died as a Muslim, there was need to perform the funeral prayer for him in spite of the non-availability of the corpse.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Coordinator of llorin Muslim cemetery and a lecturer of lslamic studies at the University of llorin, Dr Abubakar Aliagan, said the prayer was necessary since the deceased died as a Muslim.
According to him, efforts to exhume the corpse of Abdulsalam for reburial had proved abortive as nobody could identify his grave at the Okeose Christian cemetery.
“We are conducting the funeral prayer without the corpse being exhumed which is purely allowed under lslamic law”.
At that point, the llorin Muslim community signalled its readiness to find the corpse for reburial.
Court order
Briefing Sunday Vanguard later on the decision, Aliagan explained that the corpse was initially rejected for burial at the llorin Muslim cemetery on September 21 following the refusal of traditionalists to allow the dead body undergo prayer and bath in an lslamic way.
The university don said the llorin Muslim community, following the decision for reburial, had secured a court order, the approval of the state government and police permit to carry out the exhumation of the corpse.
On whether the family of the deceased had been briefed on the decision, he said the family was not part of the arrangement since its members had succumbed to the instructions of traditionalists on earlier burial rites.
“We as Muslims have a moral duty to honour our brother who died as a Muslim but we were initially incapacitated when his family and the management of the state College of Education, Oro allowed traditionalists to take over the corpse”, Aliagan said. The corpse was re-buried last Tuesday at the Muslim cemetery, Ilorin.
Before the reburial, a huge crowd of Muslims had stormed the Christian cemetery where Abdulsalam’s corpse was exhumed.
It was learnt that officials of Kwara State Ministry of Health performed the
exhumation of the corpse after pathologists from the University of
Ilorin Teaching Hospital rejected a request to do so.
The leader of Islamic clerics in Ilorin, Alhaji Abubakar Aliagan, who led the exercise, was said to have asked his aides to bring sacks, with which to pack the decomposing body, along.
But the crowd was shocked when they saw that the remains were still intact. An eye witness said the corpse was immediately wrapped in a white cloth and taken to the Muslim cemetery in Ilorin for reburial.
‘Not a family affair’
Abubakar told the crowd that the reburial was a major triumph for Islam.
He dismissed the claim in some quarters that whoever was involved in the reburial of Abdulsalam would die prematurely.
The leader of the Muslim clerics, who is also a renowned radio commentator, said the victim died as a Muslim regardless of the circumstance and it behoved on the Muslim community to accord him a befitting burial.
His words, “The deceased brother, I didn’t know him and I don’t believe we even met when he was alive. But what concerned us is that we were instructed by the holy Prophet Muhammed that it is incumbent upon Muslims, who survive a deceased, to see him buried according to Islamic rites. It is not a family affair. Once a Muslim dies, it is no longer a family affair. The responsibility rests on the Muslim community that he should be given a befitting burial.
“The brother we are talking about died 49 days ago when he was struck by lightning during a downpour and traditionalists were brought in because, according to Yoruba belief, which became the domineering factor during this period, some traditional rituals must be performed on him, which they did.
“And we Muslims insisted that he should be buried according to Islamic rites. He was taken to an unknown place where he was buried and since then we have been on it. We must say that we received the cooperation of the police. They gave us the necessary papers for the exhumation. Pathologists at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital rejected our request to carry out the exhumation following which the Kwara State Health Commissioner took the matter up and everybody cooperated.
“We had problem identifying the grave where this brother was buried. We appealed to those who initially buried him to show us the place, but our appeal fell on deaf ears. But as God would have it, where he was buried was the Christian cemetery, and what we know Christians for is that they bury their corpses in caskets.
“When we went, initially, two weeks ago, for the exhumation, those who were supposed to show us the place were showing the wrong place. So, after we examined about three graves, we found out that the corpses there were buried in caskets, and this particular person we are talking about was not buried in casket. But we knew the area where the burial took place, the only problem is that we could not identify the exact grave and it is not hygienic for someone to be digging all the graves, simply because we wanted to identify a grave of someone who was buried after he was killed by lightning and exhume the body.
“As you know that there is Nigerian factor in everything, those who were not ready to show us the exact grave, their belief is that if they pinpointed the grave, there was the likelihood that they too would be struck by lightning and die. They called this ‘akufa’, so they were afraid. None of the members of the family who witnessed the burial cooperated with us.
“But as Allah would have it, they showed us the area. So, we went into action and the action produced the exact grave we were looking for. We then alerted those who would exhume it for us.
“We wanted to bury him around 7am because we believed the body must have decomposed. But when the corpse was exhumed, we found that the body was fresh and intact. So, we decided to delay the burial till 10am so as to attract more people to come and see and witness that Allah preserved the body of this man despite all the noise surrounding his death.
“Initially, there was resistance due to the fact people believe, according to the traditionalists, that they would die. But, according to Islam, we shouldn’t entertain such fear. So, it is that strong faith that we preached to our fellow Muslims. That is how we discovered the grave and we are happy that we met him without the body decomposing, and we did what Islam demanded from us on him”.

Beauty mistakes college girls make

College life is filled with lots of adventures and exciting experiences! At this point in life with all the wonderful lectures, hangouts with friends and all, it's important not to neglect the part where we need to care for our health and general looks. This means not making these common mistakes among college girls.

Not drinking enough water

Taking few glasses of water daily or not taking enough water before and after meals dehydrated the body. It is important you drink 8-10 glasses of water per day in order to ensure your body and skin stays hydrated always.

Not getting enough sleep

It's important you get your beauty sleep every night, while you sleep your skin cells gets repaired and you're bound to wake up the following morning feeling refreshed. Therefore, make it a point of duty to get at least 8hrs of sleep every night; also ensure you make use of satin bedding that won't strip your hair and skin of moisture.

Popping your zits

The urge to squeeze the zits on your face might be overwhelming but tell you what? Popping your zits doesn't make them go away instead it results into inflammation and scarring of your skin. Get your hands off your face already!

Lack of proper exercise

Do you want a perfectly toned body? Then you should haul your ass out of bed every morning for some exercise. A simple jog, short run, even 30 minutes walking will get your juices flowing again! Regular exercise is equivalent to healthy body and skin!

Check out these wonder-working kitchen tricks.

 You’re welcome!

1. Mistakenly added too much salt? Just drop in one peeled potato.

The potato helps absorb the excess salt.

2. Angry over craked boiling eggs, add a pinch of salt to keep the shells from cracking.

3. Never put citrus fruits(Oranges, Lemons, limes, etc) or tomatoes in the fridge.

The low temperatures degrades the aroma and flavor of these fruits.

4. To clean iron cook-ware, avoid using detergents.

Alternatively, scrub them with salt and a clean dry paper towel.

5. When storing empty airtight containers, throw in a pinch of salt to avoid having that damp smell.

6. When making gravy (stews) and accidentally burn it, turn your mixture it into a fresh pan and continue.

Add a pinch of sugar, doing that takes out the burnt taste. P.S watch the qty of sugar tho.

7. Burned a pot of rice?

Place a slice of piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes to draw out the burned flavour. Be careful not to scrape the burned pieces off of the bottom of the pan when serving the rice.

8. Before you chop fresh red peppers, rub a little bit of vegetable oil into your hands and your skin won’t absorb the spiciness.

9. If you aren’t sure how fresh your eggs are, place them in about four inches of water.

Eggs that stay on the bottom are fresh. If only one end tips up, the egg is less fresh and should be used soon. If it floats, it’s past the fresh stage.

10. To banish ants from the kitchen, find out where they are coming in and cover the hole with petroleum jelly(Vaseline).

Ants won’t trek through the jelly. If they are coming under a door, draw a line on the floor with chalk. The little bugs also won’t cross a line of chalk.

11. Don’t store your bananas in a bunch or in a fruit bowl with other fruits.

Separate your bananas and place each in a different location. Bananas release gases which causes other fruits (including other bananas) to ripen quickly. Separating them will keep them fresh longer.

12. To keep potatoes from budding in the bag, put an apple in with them.

13. If you manage to have some leftover wine, cocktail drinks at the end of the evening, freeze it in ice cube trays for easy addition to sauces (white wine works wonders in sauces.)

14. After boiling pasta or potatoes, cool the water and use it to water your house plants.

The water contains nutrients that your plants will love.

15. When defrosting meat from the freezer, pour some vinegar over it.

Not only does it tenderize the meat; it will also bring down the freezing temperature of the meat and cause it to thaw quicker.

16. Always keep an aloe vera plant in your kitchen.

It’s invaluable when you scrape your arm or burn your finger. Just break off a leaf and rub the gel on the injury.

17. Too much fat or greese in your stew? Drop in an ice cube.

The ice attracts the fat, which you can then scoop out. This works wonders.

18. To reuse cooking oil without tasting whatever was cooked in the oil previously, while heating the oil, drop a small piece of fresh ginger.

It absorbs any flavors and odors.

19. If your milk always goes bad before you can finish it, try adding a pinch of salt to the carton when you first open it.

It stays fresh for a few more days.

20. If two drinking glasses become stuck together after stacking, it’s not impossible to separate them.

Just put ice in the inner glass and dunk the outer glass in warm water. The warm glass will expand and the cold glass will contract, making the glasses separate easily.

Benefit of cucumber

2017 1:24 AM
Cucumber, a long, green-skinned fruit with watery flesh, is usually eaten raw in salads or pickled. Although native to the Chinese Himalayan region, it is widely cultivated, but very rare in the wild.
Interestingly, cucumber is good overall health, especially during the summer, since they are mostly made of water and important nutrients essential for the body. The flesh of cucumbers is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and folic acid, while the hard skin is rich in fiber and a range of minerals, including magnesium, molybdenum, and potassium. Also, cucumber contains silica, a trace mineral that contributes greatly to strengthening connective tissues. They are known to heal many skin problems, under eye swelling and sunburn.
Cucumber also contains ascorbic and acids, which prevent water loss. Other benefits include:
Protection of brain
Cucumber contains an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that plays an important role in brain health. In addition to improving your memory and protecting your nerve cells from age-related decline, fisetin has been found to prevent progressive memory and learning impairments in mice with Alzheimer’s disease.
Reduction of cancer
Cucumber contains polyphenols called lignans (pinoresinol, lariciresinol, and secoisolariciresinol), which may help to lower the risk of breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers. It also contains phytonutrients called cucurbitacins, which also have anti-cancer properties.
Keeps body hydrated
If you are too busy to drink enough water, munch on the cool cucumber, which is 96 per cent water. It will cheerfully compensate.
Fights inflammation
Cucumber may help to “cool” the inflammatory response in the body, and animal studies suggest that it reduce unwanted inflammation, in part by inhibiting the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes (including cyclo-oxygenase 2, or COX-2).
Freshens breath
Placing a cucumber slice on the roof of your mouth may help to rid your mouth of odor-causing bacteria. According to the principles of Ayurveda, eating cucumbers may also help to release excess heat in your stomach, which is said to be a primary cause of bad breath.
Manages stress
Cucumber contains multiple B vitamins, including Vitamin B1, Vitamin B5, and Vitamin B7 (biotin). B vitamins are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress.

Macmillan nurses in London – who care for the terminally ill – have revealed some of the moving things their patients have told them at the end of their lives, BBC reports.
The nurses revealed that some patients asked to see pets for the last time, others simply wanted a cup of tea.
One nurse, at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, said a couple who were both being given palliative care once asked for their beds to be pushed together so they could hold hands.
They then died within 10 days of each other.
The nurses opened up about the final few minutes of life for a special video for BBC News titled What do people say before they die?
Many of the women featured said they took part to prove it is possible to have a ‘good death’ and people shouldn’t be afraid of passing on.
Nurse Dani Jervis said in the moving film: ‘We do get people that would like their favourite tipple.
‘One person said life is too short, do the things that you want, do the things that make you happy,’ she said.
Another nurse, Louise Massey, said: ‘To see the joy on someone’s face when they’re dying when their dogs been in to see them is priceless.’
‘One thing that was said to me quite recently was about the dying process and he said it wasn’t like the movies and what you see on the TV,’ Carina Lowe said.
Nurse Jervis added: ‘I think there is such a thing as a good death and I think communication is key. ‘If there is something that you want to do, go for it.’
