1. Single task. And feel free to talk to yourself (aloud or in your head) while you're doing things, such as, "Good. My hair is done, now I'll unplug my curling iron and put it away. When it is away, I don't get burned on it, or trip over the cord." The talking part creates reinforcement of what you're doing.
2. Systems . Create routines and follow them all the time, every time. Some folks call these systems. For example, the minute you walk in the door, put your hat, coat, keys, shoes, etc all where they belong.
Others simply write everything down. I have an elderly neighbor who goes so far as to write down exactly what she eats in her daily calendar. She can open the calendar years later and remember the whole day -- who she spent time with, what she accomplished, how much she paid for things, and she's nearly 80 now. If that's not a great system, I don't know what is!
3. Sleep . Get enough rest -- going to bed and getting up at the same time daily is a good way to relax your brain.
4. Simplify Consider simplifying as many areas of life as you feel comfortable with --- right down to your wardrobe. Think of Steve Jobs and his black mock turtle neck and jeans. He didn't have to waste brain energy picking out his wardrobe daily, or have to concern himself with picking things up at the cleaners.
5. Good nutrition. Your brain needs you to fill your gut with the proper nutrients. Don't expect a pill to do the trick. Veggies, and lots of them, is the name of the game -- raw or lightly cooked, no mushy gushy stuff
